I have had the great pleasure of hanging out with these fellas over the past couple of months and i have heard some new stuff from their upcoming album....flat out amazing....so with out further-a-do my interview and shots with Brokn Englsh.....

Vicer- How you doing fellers?....Can you guys state your names for the record....
L- Lyrics 2 Go...

C- I am Cion Burress....

M- And I am Myk Dyleks....

V- How did you guys become B.E.?
C- Well, we all grew up on the same block and wanted to get out of the hood.....and um, that story is totally untrue.....
(Laughter)
C- Basically, we've known each other forever basically; I just said basically twice, that's awesome, but um....we went to school together and grew up in Hillside (NJ) and met as early as 8th grade and we were associates that just became friends. We were all doing music individually. When I would get home from school, Myk and I would get together and make music and something just wasn't right and Myk was on that everlasting quest to find out what was missing and one day we were just sitting around and I got my hands on Lyrics mix tape that he had done in college and we (Myk and I) were listening to it together and we were like, "yoooo, lets sit him down and lets do a song"......from that song became albums and from that became shows and from that became what B.E. is now......

V- How many years have you guys been B.E.?
C- 30 years.....
(laughter)
M- We've been doing this for about 3 1/2 years going on 4 years as Brokn Englsh.....but everyone individually has been messing with the music for a while.....

V- How did you guys get the name B.E.?
M- Basically, we were trying to find a name and we were rifling through a bunch of different things to come up with a name for the group and one day I was sitting and was thinking about it.....we have many different influences (musically) but out main one is hip-hop and when you think about it, what is the language of hip-hop? Slang....and what is slang?.....Broken English.......

V- Nice...I like that..
M- Well, thank you very much!

V- What do you guys (individually) contribute to the group?
L- I will say I contribute the energy....um you know, I'm the type to make sure the vibe is good. I mean I feed of these guys, but I naturally bring the energy to the group and I balance these two guys out...
C- I would have to say.....hmmm....I don't know, man, that is a damn question.....

V- I mean, do you contribute donuts to every meeting?
(laughter)

C- I bring bars to every meeting, to every song....but seriously, i feel like as far as that aspect, outside of the music, i bring the business aspect.....and I try to do my best!
M- I wouldn't really know how to answer that question...as far as the music we all equally contribute as far as concepts and we all write our own lyrics...so, yeah that's basically it.
C- Myk brings the experience and he has a larger knowledge of music than lyric and myself and i feel that all ties into how we work and that is one of our strongest points, because their will be things we don't hear that he will pick up on and that will take a song to the next level....

V- What are some of your influences, when it comes down to making music?
L- I feel its a big pot of rock, alternative, 90's hip- hop, r&b; mix a little of the 808's and boom bap stuff, yeah, so we all just feed off each other.
C- I would have to agree, there is not one particular genre we just listen to, we listen to a lot of different thing, whether it be stuff from the 60's, 70's even doo wop (laughter) whatever sounds good and i heartfelt and gravitate towards that and i think it shows in how we present out music.
M- Not only in sounds, we are a very visual group as well, like we are influenced by a lot of different movies and TV shows, we all came up in the 80's when movies were grand and meaningful....you know?

V- Even movies and TV? how so?
C- The way movies and different TV shows play into what we do musically is because these things are engraved into who we are, even if you sit down with us for a while, we'll start throwing out references to different movies and TV shows. So, it helped build us to be who we are....so to that effect when you hear us do music, you'll even hear us touch on those random TV shows; especially for our skits....

V- OK, now for the fun stuff.....F,M,K??

L- Fuck- Keri Hilson...Marry- Jill Scott.....and Kill?-....Orson Wells....Fuck Citizen Cane!!!!
C- OK I'm going to give the quick back story to that last comment...Lyric was in film class and had to watch that movie and has hated ever since....
(laughter)
L- I don't kill women, so it had to be him!!!

C- If I had to fuck anybody, it would be....off the top of my brain, one of the finest lil' heffers I can think of right now would be Rosa Acosta, I would "body" that heffa; Rosa holla at me!!!! Marry? hm mm....who would I marry? If i had to marry someone, it would be Kerry Washington.....now who would I kill??? I would kill the over flow in rappers and people trying to do music because that is killing music!...
M- Fuck- Teedra Moses, Marry- Messina and Kill- Bill Harper, he just comes off as such a pretentious prick to me, I feel the world would just be a better place...if he wasn't here!

V- What is your vice?
L- Electronics....they will be the death of me!!!
C- Loose women...
V- Is that really a vice?!?!
(laughter)
C- Seriously though, my vice would be the thrill of success, and I obsess over that shit, so that would be my vice!
M- My vice?...I am a connoisseur of liquor, so my vice would be a nice whiskey!!!

Vicer- State your name for the record?

Dez- My name is Daniel Taylor Hulbert from Albany NY...I go under the name Dez, Dezmatic, Dezzy BEAR or Dezignated, I am one half of Dez and Nobs.

Nobs- I go by nobs, my government name is (plane flies by)

V- So, how'd you guys get started?
N- Dez had a friend who attended scribble jam in 2000-2001; me and my other friend put out a promo sampler to give out to everyone at the event, one of Dez's friends happened to take a copy and took it back to Albany, played it for Dez, he liked what he heard, then he booked me to play a show up in Albany, i went, Dez and I became friends and ever since then we been doing shows together- then a few years later we were like, lets make music together and.....
D- Sorry i wasn't listening......
N-.....so lets make some music together. So i was like i wanna make some beats for you, Dez said "do it!" and uh, i actually made some beats for myself and I thought they were too hardcore for me, so i gave it to Dez and he murdered them.....
V- Dez, do you concur?
D- (Burping) Yeeeaahhhhh!

V- Why hip-hop? why not punk, rock, or reggae?
N- I grew up with all of that [type of music] and rap
D- That's a good question, and honestly, it'll sound cliche and corny because it comes from movies, but all i do is sit at home, eat and watch movies; the Lester Bangs character that Phillip Seymour Hoffman played, at a certain point in the movie, he says "music finds you" and you can say things are "fated" to be or you can say shit just runs into each other by accident or a mix of the both, but you know, i liked all types of music when i was growing up, but definitely, ah....... i saw Chuck D on the TV and i lost my shit, and i was like, that's what i want to do, he's the coolest dude i ever seen, ever, period!

N-I heard "around the way girl", I saw it on video music box when i was really young and I've had something for rap ever since and then it turned into something like music you can make, i didn't have money for a guitar or a drum set when i was younger, so all i did was use instrumentals of other peoples music and i did what i could to them, which was just write [lyrics] to them [beats].
D- That's definitely what the appeal to this is and you can see that to a fault now with everyone rapping, i never had the coordination to learn piano, drums or guitar and definitely didn't have the money to buy such things and i wasn't up my parents asses [ to get those things] , if i was like that, if i was a rich kid, i would of been in rehab already! I'm just too poor to afford rehab, so I've learned to control my drugs and I'm too poor to put on hockey pads when i was a kid, you know what i mean? rich kids play hockey, rich kids go to rehab, rich kids get violin lessons, i didn't get any of that shit, so all i needed was a pen and paper. i started with drawing cartoons and just drawing whatever....and people link graffiti to hip hop, i think that's horse shit, but um, it happens; graffiti is what it is on its own, it doesn't need hip hop, it just happens to hang out with it.....a lot. it [writing] came from visualizing things, I've always been very visual and still am.....i need the lights on when I'm having sex. I need to see movies, i need to be visually stimulated and so that for me, by using words became a natural progression, from drawing.....

V- What are your influences musically?
N- Music that makes me happy, so that would be Ice Cube to Anthrax...thrash metal to rap. Anything that makes me feel good while I'm listening to it, is what I use to influence myself.....
D- Good is good, no matter what. Getting older your palette expands, you wanna hear; you truly want things to be fresh, and not in a cliche sense, but in the actual meaning of the word. things need to be fresh, so when i first hear something that's good, that actually has artistic merit, its going to influence me.

V- This is your second album together...what is the difference between your first and your second album?
N- Our personal lives, that's for sure. Each of us went through a bunch of shit. Growth, as you get older, you realize what you did wrong on the first one and try not to do it on the second one....
D- Also with being younger, you consider more possibilities and then you run into disappointments and things and be like, "ah man that could of been dope" but shit doesn't happen for a number of different reasons over and over again. On the first record we were much more detailed, with the excerpts and sound bytes and not that we would never do that again, but with this record we were like, fuck the tricks, fuck the weird anomalies, we're just gonna punch you right in your mouth and if you don't like it....GOOD, because we don't want you listening to out shit!....basically the second record is much more on point!

V- How did you guys come up with the name Rocky Dennis for the album?
N- Originally it was going to be called, "everybody dies, except for us"... that's a Scorsese reference.
D- Because in all Scorsese movies everybody fucking dies except Deniro.....
N- .....i was watching Mask one day and i was already thinking i wanted to name the album after a random name, like John Stevens or something; like some stupid shit that no one would've understood, but Rocky Dennis is a dope name, that dude was mad ill, but he was ugly, he was who he was and we are who we are......so i told Dez, how bout Rocky Dennis and Dez was like, "that's the name!!!"

V- So,....which one of you guys are Rocky Dennis?
D- Oh we both are, man....like our record, its super ugly and that's the whole thing about Rocky Dennis,..... Roy L Dennis, that was his real face and cats would be like, take off that mask, and its like, this is who I am, I'm ugly by societies standards, but this is who i am...Fuck You!
People go around, trying to pretty themselves up, but its just pointless, cause underneath all that shit they're all ugly as fuck......
We get into it, i reference somethings i went through, he [nobs] referenced somethings he went through; we reference a lot of the surface value stuff people assign to tattoos and street wear.....like that all that shit is temporary, and its all gonna burn eventually anyways, so its like.....lets get naked and dance....

V- So....Who's Cher in the equation?
[Chuckles]
N- hmmmm......Who's Cher?
D- We haven't met her yet. But when we meet her, I'm going to marry her....!

V- Fuck, Marry, Kill?!?!?!
D- I would Fuck Nobs, marry Nobs and kill Nobs...in that order....no, no, no...i would marry him then kill him and then fuck him!!!!

V- Ok......Whats is your vice?
D- Alcohol...
N- I used to smoke.......but records now, I'm obsessive compulsive about buying and collecting records!
D- I like sex..... and alcohol....and drugs and food.....and sleep.....TV is pretty rad, i like TV.....I don't like reality shows anymore, i gave up on them....that shit is played.....
N- I used to smoke......

2. What are your influences in music?

2. My influences in music are a variety of genre and styles and different great artists, from Big Daddy Kane to Paul Robeson to Bjork. But let me just say that unlike a lot of douche bags who triumphantly declare that they don't listen to new hip hop, I most certainly do, and draw a lot of influence from it. If you're past listening to rap, you're past being a part of it.

3. Why/ How did you start battling?

3. I started battling as a kid just because that's what you did.

4. What do you think of the current state of battling? is it making a comeback?

4. Battling is in a renaissance because there are several new written accapella leagues (like Grindtime, URL, King of the Dot, Don't Flop, No Coast, Got Beef) all over the world that are doing incredible things. I think it's really promising.

5. Ok, so you're from cali.....how did you end up in NY? linking up with BBAS?

5. I went to New York because I wanted to prove that I could be that dude here. Brown Bag came about because of my time spent at Fat Beats, where I met the rest of the crew.

This past weekend I had the opportunity of hanging out with The OTHER..... great convo with these gentlemen.....and i got to take some pics of them too....enjoy!

VICER: So, its windy as fuck out here, but here we go; State your name for the record...

V: Alright, what do you guys contribute to "the Other"?
C: anything from visual, song-writing, promotion, booking, distribution, packaging...
A: ....we're completely independent, everything is done by us...
C: anything dealing with "the other" is because we were talking to someone directly...
A: ..if you see "the Other", its because we put in the work to speak to who ever is in charge of the event, to get ourselves on. Basically, there's no booking agent, for right now, it's just us...

V: Why do everything on your own?
C: it's kinda been a choice, it's been out experience that when we are in control of our musical destiny, out product comes out more to our liking.
A: basically, it just lets us take control of out musical destiny.

V: Ok, Where you guys from?
C: ESSEX COUNTY!!!!
A: Well I was born in NY, then moved to Ivy Hill....so, Essex county ALL DAY!

V: Any Influences?
C: Hmmmm, you talkin bout jersey artists?

V: Naw, who in the music biz in general? What got you to be "the Other"?
C: well, my family is a musical family, my dad was a jazz musician, that did many different things in music, and with his brothers, they were deep into music, (shout out to perfect pair productions) [laughter] my father and his type of music was my major influence, i mean i started playing saxophone when i was younger....

V: So why didn't you go that route? why hip hop?
C: Well, we intially started doing hip-hop because that was the generation and the lifestyle we came from my uncles were living the music from their era which was a big influence on our (generation) but we're 80's babies, we gravitated to hip-hop, but our music right now is a "gumbo" of black music.....
A: ....i used to be at this kids crib everyday, so whatever he got , i got as well.....haha

V: So you guys grew up together?
A: Yeah, we've been knownin' each other since we were....6, 7 years old...
C: yeah, like 7 years old....
A: yeah 7, at first we were enemies, though....

V: Hahaha really? at 7?
C: [laughter]....we was scrappy lil niggas....hahahaha....
A: well you know how it was in the '80's, we was fightin everyday!

V: Scuffin your kicks up and what not?
C: haha...yeah, my mom would send me to school with a white jacket and that shit would be brown when i got back home, just dirty....
A: plus there was an with the neighborhood kids,and the older kids would just fuck with the younger ones and when i moved, in, it was my turn, i was just walkin round the block breaking shit for no reason, i aint give a fuck (chuckles) my pops was like "yo you live here now, you cant be doing that...."

V: What do you guys consider yourselfs as hip-hop artists, or rap artists?
A: We are a continuation of a long line of black musicians. I mean, we are hip-hop artists by trade, but i consider us, as black muscians!
C: Black musicians, that sounds great! but all hip-hop is music, so all hip-hop artists are musicians.....

V: Alright, now the tough hitting questions....FMK?
A & C: hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
C: Kill....who ever shot Sean Bell....Marry....she would have to look like Lauren Hill and think like Angela Davis....and Fuck....oh shit, hmmmmm the list is long.....[laughter]
A: im thinking about some porno bitches now.... ok F,M,K.....i would marry Oprah [laughter]

V: hahaha, you wouldnt fuck oprah?
A: hahahaha....I'd fuck her, if it lead to marriage......and who would I kill? Rush Limbaugh....yeah if i had the chance, I'd kill him......

V: NICE!
C: Nice!!!

V: ok well, what is your vice?
C: tough question, i try to master myself and limit my vices, but if i had to choose one....
A: ......Imma have to say materialism, cars, etc. i can't shake the american way of thinking....
C: Can i ride that wave too? actually I'm gonna say, money! Money is my vice, I feel like I need it, and I want it! and I hate that. I feel confined by, but I want so much of it....

V: Any Shouts?
C: I'm going to shout out Author Authentic...
A: shout out to all you guys making music, DONT GIVE UP! your bound to make it!!!!
C: I wanna shout out forward thinking people, and all the people who are being displaced by gentrification in newark and brooklyn, and i wanna shout vicer and all the people in the game who have made it by their merit and the skill and their hard work and not by some...

Couple months back i had the pleasure to have a quick "sit down" with the gentlemen of Brown Bag All Stars......with in that sit down i had the oppurtunity to speak to all of them one on one......here is a quick convo with the Audible doctor......

Audible Doctor- I am The Audible Doctor of The Brown Bag AllStars (yeah, I pulled that name out of my ass one day but it stands out and people usually don't forget it so I fucks with it)

V- Where u from?
A- I'm from Madison, Wisconsin...no I did not grow up on a farm, and no I have never tipped a cow. My home town is actually mad cool...you should visit sometime.

V- What are some of your influences that makes you make this type of music?
A- J Dilla is definitely a huge influence on me, I can never deny that...he was so creative and still continues to boggle my mine with some of the stuff he's done production wise...but DJ Premier is my favorite producer of all time.
V- Fuck, marry, kill? ( anybody at random)
A- Fuck, marry, & kill my girlfriend...(in that order). She's amazing, sexy, and she drives me nuts!

V- What is your vice?
A- I overload myself then freak out and run around in circles complaining about how I'm always overloaded and have too much to do.

V- Any collabos, any projects, concerts? Solo or with bbas?
A- Lots of collabs, Brown Bag has a lot of projects coming both group and solo wise and I'm involved in pretty much everything coming out in one way or another...I also have 2-4 more projects I hope to drop before the end of the year. Definitely look out for my project with maticulous, we go by Audimatic. That's going to be crazy!

V- Any shout outs?

2010 is here folks! And already Vice Photography has come with some heat for you. Last weekend we had a shoot with the illustrious Ms. Sheena She from Chainsaws and Jelly. A very productive shoot, seeing as Vice's fans really came out and showed their support. I must say, I knew this was going to be a very special shoot, but when I actually saw the final shots, I was knocked on my ass!

This year we are trying to focus on more eye popping shoots, and looking to expand our portfolio, and another side project. The project in production is going to focus more on fashion,( in regards to sneakers),music, our urban community, and other dope entities.

So right now we're looking for anyone that:

1. like to be a model...

2. has any dope ideas for something new...

3. anyone with a dope sneaker collection that lives within New Jersey or the Tri-State area...

4. anyone that has something of substance to share with the world...

This past weekend i had the great honor to take some pics and the opportunity of chatting with Sheena of Chainsaws and Jelly.....

Vicer: State your name for the record..
Sheena: My name is (pause) SHEENA SHE!

V: How'd you get started?
S: i was walking home one day, and i was listening to Dan's (Daniel Joseph)verse, and i said OOOH i really like Chainsaws and Jelly, and thats how it started, and its been 3 years now.....

V: How'd you decide to pick and choose what's on the blog?
S: guess it all started when i was always in the internet, and i would make my own websites and i also had a dead journal and a live journal, but those were more personal, and i wanted an outlet for (especially) jersey artist, like local artists, and seeing all that just made me mush it all together and thats what i got....

V: What do you mostly look for, in order to put it on your blog?
S: Well....i am very picky, i like to post a lot of things that i usually don't see on other sites, and especially anything to deal with jersey artists.....

V: Ok, this is weird question.....F-M-K......Fuck, Marry, Kill?
S: (giggles) well....kill - Lady Gaga!, Fuck- Daniel Joseph of course, and Marry- Daniel Joseph!
